2014-06-18_AOF-2955_RGB webThe Bryan YMCA offer swim lessons all year ‘round, with classes available for all persons ages 6 months and up! Sessions are scheduled for 5-weeks in length; each class will meet once a week for five weeks. Infant and Preschool Classes will run for 25-30 minutes each week; Grade school and Adult Lessons will run for 40-45 minutes each week. Registration will continue until all classes are full.

Ages 6 months – 36 months

The Parent/Child class is designed for children ages 6 months to 36 months and is for the child and their parents. In these classes your child will be taught:
Assisted Floating & Stretching Positions
Assisted Entries from the side (jump & ease)
Assisted & Independent Kicking
Reflex & Response
Assisted Floating Object Retrieval
Basic mouth submersion / Bubble Blowing
Rudimentary Stroke Introductions
Facial Submersion (optional)
How to play a game in the water

This level 1 class is for beginners ages 3-5. In this class your child will be taught:
Assisted Floating Positions
Assisted Entries from the side (jump & ease)
Assisted Kickboard technique
Assisted Floating Object Retrieval
Bubble Blowing
Front and Back Paddle Technique
Partial Facial Submersion (mouth)
Swimming with Flotation (10-25 feet)
Lifejacket selection / Basic Boating Safety

This level 2 class is for children ages 3-5 who can already accomplish the Pike class level, In this class your child will be taught:
Unassisted Entries from the side
Unassisted Kickboard technique (front/back)
Unassisted Front & Back Paddle (10+ feet)
Full Facial Submersion
Swimming with Flotation (40+ feet)
Lifejacket selection / Basic Boating Safety
Basic Pool Safety 
This level 3 class is for children ages 3-5 who can already accomplish the Eel class level. In this class your child will be taught
Jumping & Swimming in deeper water
Unassisted Front & Back Crawl (40+ feet)
Unassisted Breaststroke (40+ feet)
Complex Kickboarding (one arm & side)
Jumping from an elevated height
Rudimentary Breathing Technique
Lifejacket Selection/Complex Boating Safety

Advanced skills for ages 4-6 years 

Ages 6 years – 14 years

The Polliwog class is designed for beginner children ages 6-14. In this class your child will be taught:
Assisted Floating Positions
Entries from the side (jump & ease)
Kickboard techniques (Front, Back, Side)
Basic Front and Back Crawl (20 feet unassisted)
Basic Breaststroke (20 feet unassisted)
Rudimentary Breathing Technique
Swimming with Flotation (40+ feet)
Lifejacket selection / Boating Safety
Pool Rules & Safety 
This level 2 class is for children ages 6-14 who can already accomplish the Polliwog class level. In this class your child will learn:
Treading Water
Freestyle Technique (75 feet or more)
Backstroke Technique (75 feet or more)
Breaststroke Techniques (75 feet or more)
Rudimentary Butterfly (kick and paddle)
Swimming with Flotation (Multiple Laps)
Alternating and Raised Breathing
Deep Water Entries / Rescue
Basic Diving Technique
This level 3 class is for children ages 6-14 who can already accomplish the Guppy class level. In this class your child will learn:
Practice in all four competitive strokes
Alternative strokes (sidestroke / elem. back)
Advanced Diving & Entry Techniques
Distance Swimming (100 yards+) and conditioning
Reaching & Throwing Assists 
Swim Team prep for ages 6-14 yrs

Beginner skills for ages 15+
